دُعَاءُ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَن
Duʿāʾ al-Hamm wa al-Ḥazan — Supplication for Anxiety and Grief
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ، وَابْنُ عَبْدِكَ، وَابْنُ أَمَتِكَ، نَاصِيَتِي بِيَدِكَ، مَاضٍ فِيَّ حُكْمُكَ، عَدْلٌ فِيَّ قَضَاؤُكَ، أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ سَمَّيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ، أَوْ أَنْزَلْتَهُ فِي كِتَابِكَ، أَوْ عَلَّمْتَهُ أَحَدًا مِنْ خَلْقِكَ، أَوِ اسْتَأْثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الْغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ، أَنْ تَجْعَلَ الْقُرْآنَ رَبِيعَ قَلْبِي، وَنُورَ صَدْرِي، وَجَلَاءَ حُزْنِي، وَذَهَابَ هَمِّي
Allāhumma innī ʿabduka, wa-bnu ʿabdika, wa-bnu amatika, nāṣiyatī bi-yadika, māḍin fiyya ḥukmuka, ʿadlun fiyya qaḍāʾuka, asʾaluka bi-kulli-smin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fī kitābika, aw ʿallamtahu aḥadan min khalqika, aw istaʾtharta bihi fī ʿilmi al-ghaybi ʿindaka, an tajʿala al-Qurʾāna rabīʿa qalbī, wa nūra ṣadrī, wa jalāʾa ḥuznī, wa dhahāba hammī.
O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sorrow and the reliever of my anxiety.
Abdullah ibn Masʿūd reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: No servant is ever struck by worry or grief and says, 'O Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, the son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand, Your decision over me has passed, and Your decree upon me is just. I ask You by every name with which You have named Yourself, or taught to one of Your creatures, or revealed in Your Book, or kept hidden in the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my breast, the banisher of my grief, and the expeller of my anxiety,' but that Allah will remove his worry and grief and replace it with relief. It was said, 'O Messenger of Allah, should we not learn it?' He said, 'Yes, whoever hears it should learn it.'
